The Greatest Album Ever Made*

November 17th, 2008

* = in 2007
I can’t stop listening to the latest Foo Fighters album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. It’s been out for almost a year now and I can still listen to it over and over and over again.  There are good albums and then there are GREAT albums.  Albums in which every song could be heard on the radio (not that the radio should be used as a judge of greatness.)  Great albums leave you yearning for the next song, not out of dread of the current song, but anticipation of what is next.

Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace IS a great album.

Also, Foo Fighters know how to rock out live.

Food Glorious Food!!!

October 27th, 2008

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a great day!  First off, it’s my first ever “Food Day” at work.  Basically, we all bring in a dish or two and then we all consume it for the rest of the day.  I’m bringing some of Ginny’s famous Baked Potato Soup.  Others are bringing Chili, meatballs, buffalo chicken dip, creole chicken, etc.  Sounds tasty!!!

THEN Ginny is having her telecounseling students over for food, so I’ll be grilling some hamburgers, chicken and hot dogs.  Should be a good time.  I’m looking forward to what people come dressed up as.  In years past we’ve seen Darth Vader, Minnie Mouse, Fidel Castro and my personal favorite… a substitute teacher (complete with spit wads in hair).  One year, Ginny and I tried to go as a stingray and Steve Irwin… it didn’t go over very well.  Apparently it was too soon.  Oh well.  Not sure what I’m going to go as this year.

Last but not least, Taco Bell is giving away FREE Taco’s tomorrow night!!!!  yes, you heard right… FREE!  From 6-8pm because Jason Bartlett stole 2nd base in game 1 of the World Series.  Hot Diggity.  I’m gonna be stuffed tomorrow!

I LOVE FOOD!!!

Free Dr. Pepper!

October 22nd, 2008

Back in March, Dr. Pepper said they’d give everyone in America a free Dr. Pepper if Guns-n-Roses were to release Chinese Democracy sometime in 2008.  As I was driving back to work after lunch, I heard the title track on KSHE 95.  It sounded kinda bleh though.  I remember the guitar sounding good, with some shredding going on… but the vocals were heavily distorted and had lots of effects added to it.  I’d think that 13 years of work would have sounded a little better.  Consider me a little disappointed.

A free Dr. Pepper will make it all better though.

Sunday is almost here

October 10th, 2008

Sunday is almost here.  Not 100% sure if I’m ready for it yet, but it’s going to be here reguardless.  I had my first real “freak out” about the marathon on Wednesday.  Ginny and I were sitting at 17th Street Grill, consuming some of the best BBQ this side of the milky way… and blam.  It hit.  26.2 miles.  By “myself.”

How am I going to run that without the encouragement of a group of people that I know?  What happens if my knee acts up and I’m unable to finish?  What happens if some other freak injury occurs?  What if I have to use the bathroom and there are no porta-potties available!?!?  I tried to relax some, but it was tough.  The adrenaline had already started, and me “thinking” wasn’t going to calm it down.  I need to start thinking more positively about the beast.

I feel like I’m much better prepared than I was in 2002 when I last ran a marathon, but I was also 6 years younger.  I also quit running for about 5 years after that.  I hope that doesn’t happen again.

In other news, I’ve begun modding my Nerf Maverick.  I’m having some trouble getting it to shoot consistently, but the darts it does shoot seem to really fly!!!  I’ve also painted it and detailed it.  I’ll post pictures when I’m done completely.

Oh, and Brian… you’re going down!

Back up and running!!!

October 8th, 2008

It’s been a while… been kind of lazy in the “blog” department.  I got some new web hosting (www.hostmonster.com) and got mine and ginny’s sites transferred over.  I’ve got a mobile version of both our blogs up that uses the wptouch plugin to check what you’re viewing the site on.  If you’re using an iPhone or iPod or possibly even a crackberry (I don’t have one so I can’t check it), you’ll see a minimalized version of the site.  Pretty spiffy.

Also, I’m still training for the marathon that’s this sunday.  I’m kind of bummed that Dugle had to bail, so I’m stuck running it “by myself” with 40,000 other people.  I should still be ok though…  I feel like I’ve trained a LOT better than the one I ran in 2002.  I’ve followed a training schedule from www.halhigdon.com and have been doing ok for the most part.  I’ve even run the 20 mile run!!!  I have had some aches and pains along the way though… shin splints, knee pains, hamstring issues, tight calves, etc.  Today I saw Julie Francis (Francis Physical Therapy… site coming soon I hope!) and she did some stuff for my knee-cap on my left knee.  I ran 3 miles tonight with it taped and it felt much better.

Also, I started my new job over in IT a few weeks ago.  It was sad to leave advancement because I loved working on the www.greenville.edu website, but the change was needed.  I am enjoying my new work environment and feel good about my decision.

Before I left advancement, I began doing research for our new CMS.  Joomla! has been great, but it just doesn’t have the power we needed.  I did a lot of extensive research on dotCMS (www.dotcms.org) and have really fallen in love with it (even though it is Java based.)
Welp, I’m tired.  Goodnight!
